2004.

We’ll never forget it.

It was the year when Leon S. Kennedy, rookie-cop-turned-secret-agent, journeyed to Spain in pursuit of Ashley Graham, the president’s kidnapped daughter. Leon had it all: sleek hair, tight clothes, dismissive one-liners. A dream come true.

But in our affection for Leon, we forgot about Ashley. Where Resident Evil 4 saw an obstacle, RE4: Otome Edition sees a person: a woman thrust into a mad world; a college student just trying to get home, and so it happens, a lover of hotties.

This is her story.

Okay, so it’s REALLY funny. But it’s more than that. It’s about giving a character who is, let’s be honest, pretty two dimensional in the original game, and making her genuinely fun and likeable, while not really breaking from her character. There’s very little ‘gameplay’ here, even by the choices you make, but the story is just so charming and Ashley is so fun you don’t care at all. And it’s not ALL jokes, there are some actual poignant reactions from her to moments in the game, making it feel genuine. A really good job fleshing out the character….
…and hilarious to boot.

This is like, singlehandedly, the best game I’ve ever played. I have no idea why you’d let people get this for free as it’s worth 60$ I feel so privileged

I absolutely loved this game! It’s truly the Resident Evil game I never knew I needed, and I am so glad to have it. Turning the events of RE4 into an otome/dating sim game is a brilliant idea, one that works incredibly well. I mean, who hasn’t had a crush on RE4 Leon at some point? This game gives you all the Leon fanservice you could ever want and also has quite a bit of it for other characters like Luis.
I had such a blast playing RE4: Otome Edition. I had a smile on my face the entire game, and I was almost always laughing at something in it, too. It’s hilarious, creative, and clever all at the same time, with amazing original jokes and sequences that reference other great franchises (like Ace Attorney, and, if I remember correctly, the Zero Escape series). One of my favorite parts of the game was when Ashley recalls her past trauma in a way that’s supposed to help her better cope with it, and as a result, everything turns into a “bro” joke/pun. It was so hilarious and had me laughing the entire time.
RE4: Otome gives Ashley so much personality and the chance to finally shine (which the original game never really did). I adored her as a character and thought her many internal monologues were super funny. It even gives Ashley’s point of view while hiding in dumpsters, waiting for Leon to return, and shows what that may have been like for her. I have to say, I’ve always thought it was kind of funny she hopped into dumpsters to hide and was just left there while Leon did his thing. It’s so funny that Otome Edition actually explores this and gives you such a deep view into Ashley’s mindset throughout this terrifying, hilarious, and fanservice filled journey.
I also loved that there were multiple routes included and a lot of branching paths. I loved this game so much I started with Leon’s route, then went back and played through the other ones as well. I’m very happy to say I achieved all the endings for this. It was totally worth it, without a doubt.
I think this is such a good game. It’ll make you smile, laugh, swoon, and possibly spit out whatever you happen to be eating or drinking at the time. It’s that good. I also think it’s a great game to play whether you’ve played RE4 before or are completely new to it. If you have played it, this puts a completely new and refreshing spin on RE4 without actually having to play the original again. It brings back all the nostalgia from playing RE4 for the first time, while also turning it into a hilarious and unique journey all its own. And if you’re new to Resi 4, I think you’ll still love this, as it’s a funny and charming dating sim whether you have any knowledge of the original or not. The game has been updated since I initially played it, so my review is for the previous version. However, I’ll definitely be playing through the game again to experience all the content that was added in the latest update. I can’t recommend RE4: Otome Edition enough! Go play it!

One hell of a way to experience the Resident Evil 4 story. You’re doing yourselves a disservice by not playing this, especially if you’ve played the original.

I just started this game last night and it’s actually funny and very cool to play on pc.
On the original RE4 game just controling Leon the whole time you get to read Ashley’s thoughts
on Leon having a crush on him and Luis. You get to see Ashley outside of her college before
getting kidnapped by Krauser. You also can also get to see the conversations between Leon
and Ashley during the trolley ride in the castle and also the other ride outside the castle before
and after killing the big cheese dude. It’s funny how Ashley day dreaming Leon shirtless LOL!

So I discovered the Resident Evil 4 Otome edition purely by accident. I saw a tweet from Shimmersoft on the 4th of July and having not long since played Resident Evil 4 I sarcastically replied about how Ashley would have been too busy being kidnapped to celebrate. Then I decided to check out what I had replied to and as someone who has enjoyed several offbeat visual novels in the past I thought I would check it out. Now if you’ve played Resident Evil 4 Ashley is a divisive character so in many ways the one I’d compare this to is Darths & Droids retread of Star Wars episode one, which manages to make Jar-Jar Binks into a likeable character due to how they are played. And like with Jar-Jar, Ashley is throughout the Otomo edition a likeable character. Often the voice of reason or an audience surrogate for many of more absurb elements of Resident Evil 4. The game also fleshes things out and gives us Ashley’s perspective for those moments when she wasn’t at Leon’s side. Honestly, the premise of a dating sim with Ashley as the lead might be offputting to some but the Otome is at its heart a playful parody of a game it clearly shows a lot of respect to.

This game is utterly hilarious and super fun to play! Thank you, Shimmersoft for creating such a great game. My friends and I had a blast playing all the way to the end and laughing together at all of Ashley’s imaginative dreams, and of course, all the endings were magnificent. You are, quite frankly, genius.

Leon must continue the Redfield bloodline, not with you Ashley.
